TidyURL and Tidy Reader

TidyURL is a simple JS script that removes ugly tracking shit from URLs.
Tidy Reader is a JS script that makes pages more readable. Same functionality as Tranquility Reader, but more lightweight and unfortunately less customizable.
TidyURL and Tidy Reader should be working in every browser with JS support.

Vim

Vim is my favorite text editor. It is very powerful and fast. Learning the basic Vim tutorial, vimtutor, should be enough to start using Vim as your primary text editor and enjoying it.

Qalculate!

Qalculate! is a powerful calculator that can be used in CLI or GUI (Qt or GTK) mode.

Syncthing

Syncthing is an easy to use app for file synchronization. I use it to sync my documents between my phone and laptop and the only disadvantage is that the synchronization is available only if both devices are connected to the same WiFi network.

Pinta

Pinta is a cross-platform image editor similar to paint.net, but open source. Unfortunately, Pinta currently (April 2024) does not support as many plugins as paint.net does.

grim

grim is a minimal screenshot utility for Wayland similar to scrot. It can be combined with slurp if you want to select a screenshot area. I used Flameshot in the past, but I had some issues with the way Flameshot takes screenshots.

cmus

cmus is a CLI music player written in C. There's nothing special, it just works fine and doesn't eat a huge amount of RAM. If you need a GUI mp, I'd suggest QuodLibet. I used it for a while and I think that QL is one of the best music players out there.

jrnl

jrnl is a CLI journal application. I've already expressed my opinion on technology overuse and even cited taking notes on digital devices and paper as an example. But I don't live alone and I don't trust my neighbors very much, so keeping such a personal thing as a journal on paper is not possible for me, that's why I use jrnl to keep a journal. jrnl is a very simple program that supports AES256 encryption of notes, all journal entries are stored in a plain text file.

Soulseek

Soulseek is like an old Napster. Soulseek is a P2P network, mainly used as a music sharing platform. You can download music for free and share it with everyone, but if you're a leech, some users can block you and you won't be able to download music from their computers. I recommend you to use nicotine+ as a client.

rnote

rnote is a vector-based drawing app for sketching, taking handwritten notes and annotating documents. I use rnote with my graphical tablet as a draft when it's a pity to spoil a lot of paper and when I need to mark something in some pdf documents. I think rnote is a bit more fast, stable and convenient than Xournal++, which is also nice.
